A fire investigation is underway following an incident in the kitchen of The Hearth Pizzeria and Bakehouse this morning (Friday January 30).

Firefighters were called to Lewes Bus Station at 7.40am, following reports of heavy smoke.

Two crews from Barcombe and Lewes have since been assisting with the fire investigation, after entering the building wearing breathing apparatus and extinguishing the kitchen fire with one hose reel.

As a result of the incident, there is fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage in the restaurant.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Hearth said on Twitter it was a small fire and no one was hurt.

There had been no serious damage to the building.

The restaurant said it would be closed for a few days.
