Vandals have daubed graffiti over the historic Priory Park site.
Sy Morse-Brown, the chairman of Lewes Priory Trust, said, “It is difficult to understand why anyone would think it funny or clever to spraypaint graffiti on the historic masonry in Priory Park.
“The people of Lewes have demonstrated that they really enjoy Lewes Priory as a heritage site and appreciate the huge amount of volunteer time and public money spent to make it such an important local asset.
“The Town Council which owns the site and Lewes Priory Trust which manage it are right to be dismayed that a few individuals feel that it is OK to vandalise the ancient walls.
“It is to be hoped that the porous masonry can be successfully cleaned.”
