Businesses have been speaking out about the benefits of locating their companies in Newhaven in a new video.
The video commissioned by business support service Locate East Sussex showcases successful Newhaven-based businesses against a backdrop of economic growth in the town.
Philip Johnson, Director of Locate East Sussex, said: “Newhaven has entered a period of rapid economic growth with companies expanding and many new jobs being created.
“We created this video because it’s such an exciting time to do business in Newhaven which is fast emerging as a centre for clean, green and marine technologies.
“The town has great connections to Brighton and Lewes, has a skilled workforce and benefits from a wide selection of affordable commercial properties.”
The video highlights exciting developments such as Newhaven’s massive port expansion plan, construction of E.ON’s £1.3billion Rampion Offshore Wind Farm and the opening of UTC@harbourside.
Among those interviewed about Newhaven’s thriving business economy was Ben Jensen, CEO of leading technology firm Surrey NanoSystems.
He said: “We chose Newhaven because it is close to Brighton but more economical, close to major transport links and the infrastructure is good. It’s a beautiful area and fantastic place to work and live.”
Gyr King, Founder and Director of art production company King & McGaw, added: “Newhaven is a good location and it’s easy for me to travel to London two or three times a week.
“For us, it’s really nice that as more and more businesses come in, Newhaven gets more facilities and that makes it an even better environment for everyone.”
Councillor Rupert Simmons, East Sussex County Council’s Lead Member for Economy, added: “East Sussex is a dynamic and enterprising place to live and work. It has a fast expanding technology base, covering modern and innovative industries such as IT and engineering.
“Businesses flourish in this county and Newhaven is a primary example where economic growth is happening fast. It is becoming a centre for marine technology with expanding new businesses and jobs. This includes the Newhaven Growth Quarter on Denton Island, the University Technical College and new infrastructure and housing developments.
“Newhaven Port has expanded and permission to deepen the harbour has been granted and a new Harbour access Road is also imminent. It is the dedicated port on the south coast providing a gateway to the continent and the ferry service is now secured for an extended contract. “
