Hailsham Town manager Andy Goodchild said he felt his Stringers side deserved to get a point out of their game with Newhaven on Saturday – but bemoaned his side’s response to Newhaven going down to nine men.
Hailsham themselves had to battle with 10 men against 11 for much of the game – and indeed managed to keep Newhaven out for all that time.
But as soon as home side Dockers had two men sent off in quick succession, Hailsham conceded two quick goals to go from 2-1 up to losing 3-2.
Goodchild said: “I felt we deserved a little bit more out of the game.
“It wasn’t a pretty game of football but I thought it was played in a good spirit.
“I’m disappointed with some of the cautions – for both teams.
“I felt we probably did enough to deserve a point, but you don’t always get what you deserve in football.”
But he added: “We’ve thrown it away in the last 10 minutes. When they’ve gone down to nine men, we’ve not reacted to that. I’ve got some young players and I think there’s a little bit of learning that we’ll take from the game.”
