New Lewes signings Sam Gore and Rikki Banks took time out from their first pre-season training session with their new club to talk to the Sussex Express.
For left-sided defender Gore it was his first time training as a Lewes player while fans favourite Banks is now in his third spell with the club, having signed from Wealdstone earlier in the summer.
Banks is not only reunited with Lewes but also with new Rooks boss Garry Wilson, who took the 6’ 4” goalkeeper to then Conference Premier side Eastbourne Borough in 2010.
Both players expressed positive but realistic ambitions for the side next season.
Gore, a 24-year-old arrival from Ramsgate, said he was encouraged by the other new signings at the club and hoped to “step on” from last season’s flirtation with relegation.
Banks, meanwhile, was more outspoken, speaking of the need to “get a squad playing a lot better than it did last year,” adding that the Rooks of last season had been “very poor compared to how they have been in the past”.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper added that the coming season would be a “rebuilding process”.
Both players also spoke of the circumstances surrounding their respective moves to Sussex.
