A large crowd gathered in the drizzle at Lewes War Memorial on Monday for the annual Remembrance Day ceremony.

It marks when the guns of the First World War fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

The event was attended by members of Lewes Town Council and the High Street was briefly closed to traffic.

The start and finish of the impeccably-observed two-minute silence was marked by the firing of maroons from the roof of Lewes Town Hall.
