Improvements include better parking and access to the building, a new entrance lobby and reception area, installation of a glass screen between the cafe and swimming pool, refurbished squash courts, refurbished sauna and steam rooms in the health suite, retiled pool changing area, new walk through cubicles and showers and improved changing facilities for outdoor games and field users.

People were invited to a fun family open day on Saturday, August 10 to see the new facilities and try them out.

Wealden Council leader Cllr Brian Redman said: “I took great pleasure in re-opening the Uckfield Leisure Centre and am very impressed by the transformation that has taken place there. The work is part of a £7.4 million programme of development Wealden has committed to the district’s four leisure centres. We set out to improve a number of areas at the Uckfield centre but were mindful of keeping the cost down in order that we could continue to offer these facilities at competitive prices to the local community. I’m pleased to say we have fully achieved our objectives and I would urge people to come and have a look at what’s available as it is a great asset to the area.”

Centre manager Stuart Crawford added: “We are delighted with the modernisation and improvements made and feel confident that people will make the most of the opportunities we have. We did our utmost to minimise disruption and keep the Centre open for the majority of the works. I would like to thank the Freedom Leisure team for their help, our visitors for their patience and the Council for sharing our confidence in the project from start to finish. The open day for the public was a great success and I’m looking forward to welcoming people back to enjoy the modernised facilities for many years to come.”
