A CROSS was carried through Lewes on Good Friday in an annual event to symbolise the crucifixion of Christ and the beginning of Easter.
The 12ft cross started its journey at St Pancras RC Church, Irelands Lane, at 6pm and the Walk of Witness saw it carried through High Street, St Andrews Lane, Southover Road, Station Road and Mountfield Road.
A procession followed it through to The Mount, where it was raised on the summit and a short service was given.
There was also a time for meditation for the gathering.
Earlier in the day there was the Children’s Way of the Cross at 10am, followed by the Stations of the Cross at midday and the Liturgy of the Passion andn Death of the Lord at 3pm.
