Fifty older people descended on Shinewater Sports Centre this week for the launch of Walking Football.
Walking football is a slow-paced, non-contact sport for the over 50s, designed to help people maintain an active lifestyle. The players are not allowed to run or jog during play.
The sport has been introduced to the town as a result of a partnership between Eastbourne Borough Council, Eastbourne Borough FC in the Community, Age UK East Sussex and the Sussex County FA.
Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services, Councillor Carolyn Heaps, said:“If the launch is anything to go by we have a new activity that is set to grow and grow. It’s a great way for older people to stay active, get fit and, most importantly, meet new friends. I’m absolutely delighted that we have launched it in Eastbourne.”
Walking Football will take place at Shinewater Sports Centre every Thursday morning. There is a community session from 10.00-11.00am and a competitive session between 11am and 12noon.
