Hailsham family reunited with stolen chihuahua

Waiting for Video...

A family has been reunited with its beloved pet three months after it went missing in mysterious circumstances.

Mum Louise Saint thanked the Sussex Express for running the story and all the people who had helped ensure Pepsi’s safe return.

Mrs Saint said: “We had a tip off Pepsi had been stolen and taken to Pevensey, which I thought might have happened but I didn’t have proof.

“Someone rang me and said ‘are you still missing a dog, I believe it’s in a property in Pevensey’.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A dog, believed stolen from Hailsham in October last year, has been reunited with its owner after it was recovered by police from Pevensey.

“Officers are investigating the theft of the dog and would like to hear from anyone who has information regarding the incident.”

Anyone with information should call Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 0494 of 16/1.

Pet charity Doglost.co.uk receives up to 200 calls a week about missing animals.

Its founder, Jayne Hayes, said: “We get two types of dog theft: organised gangs going around country properties for working dogs and inner cities, but where thieves used to sell them down the local pub, now they wait for the owner to put up a reward.

“Chihuahua are top of the list because they are small and there’s a market for them.

“Celebrities like Paris Hilton have all got them and so the teenage girls want them. But they cannot afford them so there’s a market for no questions asked sales.”
