Slideshow: Wealden Activity Day in Uckfield
HUNDREDS of youngsters and their families descended on Uckfield’s West Park last Wednesday for Wealden’s Activity Day.
The council has already been awarded the Olympic ‘Inspire’ mark for their events.
This was a great chance for people to try different sports and activities.
Uckfield town mayor cllr John Carvey came along to enjoy the day and join in some of the activities on offer - at one point he was seen operating the hula hoop.
The emphasis was on inclusive and physically active fun tackling the increasing problem of sedentary lifestyles which can lead to obesity and other future health problems. All members of the family, of all ages, were welcomed.
The Wealden Community Development Team and Active Play organised the event together with the police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue.
Activities included a BMX park, tug of war, healthy cooking sessions, crafts, group games and drama sessions.
Local sports clubs, Freedom Leisure and Children’s Centres were on hand to showcase the activities that they offer and encourage everyone present to keep taking part in healthy sports and events.
