VIDEO: Lambs born at the Seven Sisters Sheep Centre in East Dean

Waiting for Video...

It might be snowing outside, but lambing season is underway at the Seven Sisters Sheep Centre in East Dean.

And this year there’s an extra bonus - not only are there lambs gambolling about the family run farm and tourist attraction in Gilberts Drive, but some rare sable coloured sheep dog puppies have been born too.

The centre is housed in a 17th century Sussex flint barn and boasts the world’s largest private collection of sheep, with more than 50 different breeds.

Farmer Terry Wigmore and his daughter Bek are currently putting in 12 hours a day of work, if not more, for seven days a week.

And apparently this punishing schedule will continue for ten weeks until things quieten down.

Terry, who has been a sheep farmer for 50 years, said: “It feels like you just run on adrenaline most of the time as it’s life or death if you’re not there for the sheep.”

Bek said they were expecting between 300 and 500 lambs to be born this spring.

She said: “A lot of people don’t feel it’s spring until they have had their annual visit to the sheep centre.”
