VIDEO - SNOW: Reporter Karen Dunn stuck for hours on Handcross Hill

Waiting for Video...

Hundreds of cars were stuck for more than seven hours when traffic ground to a halt at Handcross Hill last night (Monday March 11).

While some opted to abandon their cars at the roadside and risk the treacherous walk home, most followed advice from Sussex Police and stayed in their vehicles.

Crawley Observer reporter Karen Dunn and sports reporter Graham Carter were among those stranded when what should have been a 25 drive home turned into an 11-hour nightmare.

Karen praised the conduct of the other motorists and added: “As the night wore on and it got colder and colder, you could have forgiven a few frayed tempers but people were marvellous.

“Whether they were chatting as they stretched their legs at the side of the road, or jump-starting cars which had given up the ghost, everyone did their best to make the ordeal pass as painlessly as possible.”
