Emergency services were called to a three-car road traffic crash on the A22 near Whitesmith on Monday morning (March 17).
The first call came at 8.50am. Two ambulance crews and a specialised fire and rescue team attended the scene.
They had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue one patient and another was able to get out of the vehicle.
One man in his 70s complained of back and neck pain.
Both were taken to hospital; one to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and the other to Eastbourne District General Hospital.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed the incident was reported closed at 10.10am and the road remained closed for two hours.
