Sussex Day celebrates our rich heritage and culture across the county. Alfriston Village will be celebrating tomorrow, Saturday, from 8am with a boot fair and parking on the Recreation Ground, then from 11am the village family fun begins. The Swords of Albion will re-enact medieval history throughout the day in their arena on The Tye. Ale will be served in the village pubs and by Harveys and Longman on The Tye.

Sunday, St Andrews invite you to a service celebrating all things bright and beautiful at 11am.

CLERGY HOUSE: If Sussex Day shenanigans has got you wanting to learn more about medieval architecture then join the Clergy House team and explore the difference between a Medieval and Tudor house with historic buildings consultant Stephen Gray. The last in a series of three talks. Thursday June 16, 10.30am to 1pm, £10. Tuesday June 14 sees a special tour of the garden 11.30am to 12.30pm to celebrate National Garden Scheme Day.

FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH: Antiques are the subject of the WI meeting and talk to be given by Janie Ramsey. Janie worked at the world’s oldest fine art auction house and will be discussing factors that influence the value, showing examples and sharing anecdotes from behind the scenes. Non-members are most welcome (donations are always appreciated). 2pm The Old Chapel Centre June 21.

FILM NIGHT FUNDRAISER: Sunday June 26. All proceeds from the screening of A Vote for Hitler will go to St Andrew’s Restoration. Join director Paul Bryers for a talk and viewing of his 1988 film, dramatising political events in Oxford in 1938. Featuring interviews with the people involved including Edna and Denis Healey. Organised by Much Ado Books 6pm for 6.30pm at Deans Place Hotel. SUMMERTIME ON BROADWAY: In this case great popular numbers by Cole Porter, Harry Warren and George Gershwin sung and played in St Andrews with the some might say more beautiful than Broadway backdrop of the Cuckmere for concluding drinks. CONGRATULATIONS JANE GREEN: Alfriston resident, professional presenter, author and astronomer Jane Green has been elected by the Board of the RAS to be a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
