DIGITAL SANDBOX: From May to early September at Sheffield Park and Garden there is the chance to create your own Capability Brown inspired landscape design with their hands-on 3D digital sandbox. SOUTHERN AT WAR WEEKEND: Is taking place tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday at the Bluebell Railway. There are too many events to list but they include military vehicles , afternoon band shows, concert party shows throughout the day, Sussex Home Guard Displays including firearms, bayonet practise and parades vehicles, Spitfire Display (on Sunday only) and Harley Davidson motorbike display (also Sunday only). FRIENDS OF CHAILEY WINDMILL: The Mill and Rural Life Museum will be open on Sunday, National Mills Day, and on Sunday May 29 from 3pm to 5 pm on both occasions. Over the weekend of May 14 and 15 the Downs Radio Group will be broadcasting and contacting other Mills throughout the UK and Europe. The group will welcome visitors on the Saturday and Sunday morning. Last year the group made contact with well over one hundred Mills. For more details call John Smith (01825 723519).

THE RED LAMPS: Are at Brighton Fringe on Monday at 11.30am at the Pavilion Gardens Café (BN1 1UF), which is a beautiful outdoor garden setting, and all are welcome to attend this free production. The Red Lamps are an integrated group of musicians from Chailey Heritage School who will be performing live, using Soundbeam technology: intercepting ultra-sonic beams using movement. Their live performance will consist of both improvised and pre-recorded material.

PLANT SALE: Will be at the forecourt of the Horns Lodge on Saturday May 21 from 10am to midday. As the sale is being organised by the Horticultural Society there will be excellent summer bedding, tomato plants, vegetable plants, perennials and much more.

GARDEN PARTY: At St Peter and St James Hospice on North Common Road on Saturday May 21 from 1.30pm to 5pm. All are welcome to enjoy the tranquil and beautiful setting of the Hospice with views of the South Downs. This is a chance to see the work of their wonderful and dedicated team of volunteer gardeners. You can enjoy a stroll in their Woodland Walk and appreciate the award-winning Reflective Garden donated by Plumpton College. Also see their two new donkeys. There will be a plant and vegetable stall with home-grown plants, as well as bedding donated by South Downs Nurseries. South Downs’ own plant doctor will be available to give advice from 2pm to 4pm. You can also play Chip Chuck, see the other stalls and relish homemade refreshments. Admission is £2 per person, with children free and all proceeds will go to the Hospice.

COMMONS SOCIETY: The society meet on Saturday May 21 at 2pm at Pound Common car park for a walk across the Commons led by Monty Larkin, Grazing Co-ordinator for the Sussex Pony Grazing and Conservation Trust, to see the resident herd of Exmoor ponies. Monty will be accompanied by Lisa Clark, from the Exmoor Pony Society, who will explain the finer points of the Exmoor pony with her pony Tiger Moth. This is an opportunity to find out about the ponies, how they are cared for and the benefits of grazing them on the Commons.

OPEN GARDEN: In aid of St Peter’s Church Restoration Fund takes place on Bank Holiday Monday May 30 from 2pm to 5pm. The garden at Chailey End, Oxbottom Lane, Newick, is in a beautiful setting with a variety of interesting plants, shrubs and trees. Admission is £3 with children under 16 years free. 50 THINGS WILD WEEK: At Sheffield Park and Garden is from Monday May 30 to Friday June 3 starting at 11am and the cost £3 to £5 a child. From raft building to pond dipping, there is a different 50 Things activity to tick off your list every day in half term. MUSICIANS BURSARY: Coro Nuovo Young Musicians Bursary 2016. The Friends of St Peter’s Church and Coro Nuovo, the leading Sussex based choir, are delighted to announce details of the preliminary round of the Coro Nuovo Young Musician Bursary which will take place at St Peter’s Church, Chailey Green, on Sunday June 5 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. The new bursary, in the sum of £500, will be awarded to help to further the studies or continuing development of a young musician from Sussex. Nine contestants, from voice to violin, aged between 17 and 25 years, are taking part in the preliminary round which members of the public can attend. Tickets priced £5, to include tea and cake, will be available on the door or from Janet Barnes on 01825 722574 or e-mail [email protected]. Proceeds from the event will be shared between the St Peter’s Church Restoration Fund and bursaries for future young musicians.
