Falmer

SUMMER IS A-COMING IN: Well, Bank Holiday Monday dawned bright and sunny. No wait a minute, what am I saying, of course it didn't. As I ate my breakfast and stared out of the window at the rain sodden garden, a sound lifted my spirits. There was a cuckoo calling, the first time I have heard one for years, it continued for a minute at least and made my day.

NATURE NOTES: The house martins are back and scouting for nesting sites in Falmer South around the pond. Some houses end up with five or six nests all lined up under the eaves. Also in Falmer South a resident in the Courtyard had a bag of garden rubbish awaiting a trip to the tip; when she went to pick it up for disposal, she discovered a robin had made a nest and laid five eggs. So it seems the visit to the tip will have to wait. I am also told that there is a woodpecker nesting in the ivy in the Courtyard. They will be getting trips of Twitchers going round the Courtyard if they carry on like this.

SERVICES: This Monday we have a special service in St Laurence, part of a series called Thy Kingdom Comes, leading up to Pentecost and taking place within our church group. Monday’s service is at St Laurence and is titled The Fire of the Spirit. The Easter Fires artwork is remaining in place to complement the worship. Tuesday’s service, Our Father Hallowed be thy Name, will take place at St Andrew’s Moulscoomb, Wednesday’s, Forgive us our trespasses, at St Mary Magdalen, Coldean and Thursday’s, Daily Bread, at Holy Nativity Bevendean. All the services start at 7.30pm.
