THE SUN: What a difference the sun makes. It has been a wonderful last few days, the warm sun was welcomed and everywhere there is blossom and bright green leaves, and as Sue said last week, the house martins are back and as the sparrows have taken up residence in last year's house martin's nest they are deciding whether to build on the other side of the window frame, twittering away as if in conference. I really must complain to the sparrows they are not the most tidy nesters, they have stuffed their new home with straw and goodness know what else, which is spilling out on to the front door entrance, but I am still happy to have them all.

GOOD WEATHER: The good weather arrived just in time for our friends from Belgium who came to stay in Hastings for a break, renting an apartment overlooking the new pier, with which they were very impressed, but horrified when I said that it was rumoured that someone had proposed to build a casino on it. When they came to Falmer, we were able to sit in the garden before walking to the south side to feed the ducks and geese taking our ‘approved’ bird food and not bread, there are now official signs asking people not to feed bread which encourages the rat population. Our visiting children loved it, and I took them into the church to see the Easter Fires Exhibition asking 4 year old Eben what he thought of the church, he replied ‘It’s alright, but Jesus wasn’t at home’, where he lives at home, the church has statues and of course our Falmer Church has none.

MUSIC: We are blessed by the music concerts we have at St Laurence and two weeks ago we were entertained by the Roedean music scholars, so when we were offered two tickets for a concert last Saturday at Roedean to hear these talented young musicians again we immediately accepted the offer. We were entertained by selections from Mozart, Kreisler, Bruch and Ravel featuring piano, violin, cello and voice, and completing the evening with the Karl Jenkins Requiem. At the end of the concert, the conductor who is also the Head of Music at Roedean, was called back and as a tribute to her, the senior girls sang ‘If I loved you’, it was obviously a surprise for her and we all found it very moving and emotional. A memorable evening.

FILM: We went to see the film Florence Foster Jenkins another singer, not quite in the class of the soprano Tillie Ng who we heard at Roedean. A very entertaining film no less, my husband whom, I am always saying, cannot sing, was inspired by her courage and confidence.

FOOTBRIDGE: The footbridge ramp is now in place, and we can now see what the whole new structure will look like. On Saturday night the sky was illuminated by the lighting put in place for the workmen, who worked all night to put it in place. I call it ‘a temple to a bus stop’.
