VOLUNTEERS WEEK: This celebration runs until Sunday. Computers for Charities has supported awareness of volunteer week for many years. However this year having got a little bit behind (with apologies), once again CfC will host open days on Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 3pm at the charities workshop Unit 26 Station Road Industrial Estate, Station Road. Refreshments provided to highlight volunteer week and also to raise awareness of the many projects operating within Hailsham.

Simon Rooksby says in his blog: In writing I remain acutely aware of all the good works undertaken and supported by the community. However there remain many more unware of the possibilities and needs which could benefit from time or skills in the wider community. This occasion provides a poignant time to encourage further support or seek support for new initiatives or just to give acknowledgement for the stalwarts assisting with all the different activities underway in the Hailsham area. As many know our support is not just that of computers, but much wider. Hence assisting the Foodbank for a number of years, support to Gordon Road Gospel Hall and their work in Sri Lanka, Christmas shoeboxes for home and abroad and just this weekend delivering redundant play equipment donated by Hailsham Town Council to a church and community project in Northern Romania. If there is further need please let me know, and of course we will assist where possible. All are welcome.

CALAMITY JANE: Get out your Stetsons and cowboy boots, the Deadwood Stage is rolling into town as Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS) presents a new sing-a-long version of the 1953 smash hit film, Calamity Jane, at the Pavilion Cinema on Saturday, June 18. Starring Doris Day as Calamity, the gun-toting tomboy who thinks she can outride and outshoot any man in Deadwood, South Dakota, and Howard Keel as Wild Bill Hickok, the film boasts a score of memorable songs everyone will want to join in with including ‘The Deadwood Stage’, ‘Just Blew in from the Windy City’, ‘The Black Hills of Dakota’ and ‘Secret Love’. HOPS, which raises funds to support The Pavilion, is using the Wild West-themed musical to launch its new fund-raising initiative, HOPS Classic Cinema, a collection of much-loved films it hopes people will want to see again on the big screen. There will be two performances of Calamity Jane starting at 2.15pm and 7.45pm. Tickets cost £7 (£5.50 concessions and children), plus 10 percent discount for HOPS members, and are available from The Pavilion Box Office or website. So Whip-Crack-Away.
