Malling

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Compass Buses told the Tenants and Residents Association at their meeting of April 25 that they will try to provide more services to Malling but that this is subject to funding. The association continues to discuss parking arrangements with the police HQ, who have advised those attending training to use public transport. A Summer Play School will be going ahead again partnership with the Landport Residents Association and organised by the SCDA. Pells Pool have kindly offered to sponsor the event with some of the money from their Midsummer Madness event. This will be happening on August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. MTRA are asking the Town Council to consider underwriting the cost of using Malling Community centre in case of rain. A 20 MPH speed restriction will be implemented on Church Lane and Old Malling Way. There will be a street party on Sunday to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday in Queen's Road, after around 40 people have indicated their interest in attending.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Last week’s less formal communion service was widely enjoyed by the congregation, and will continue as an alternative to the Common Worship Communion Service. The intention is to make sure that this service, which was instituted by Christ himself, who asked his disciples to ‘do this’ specifically ‘in remembrance of me,’ does not keep out those who are interested but not committed. So far there have been three informal Communion Services which have been liked and valued by the whole congregation. The intention is, if all continues to go well, to have one of each type every month. This coming Sunday, the Trinity group (St John’s, Southover and St John sub Castro with St Michael the Archangel, South Malling) are joining to gather at St John sub Castro for a weekend of activities and a Joint Service, lunch and seminar with Bishop Michael Nazir Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, who will be preaching at the Service and leading the seminar (which begins at 1pm) after a bring your own lunch. The service begins at 10.30am not the usual time. There will be no other services in the Trinity churches this Sunday.
