WEATHER: Where did our spring go? Global warming seems to be on the decrease if today's temperature is anything to go on. Shakespeare said '˜If winter comes, can spring be far behind?' Let's just hope he was right and we will get a second spring.

VIVANT ROMANII: I was fascinated by the latest, very meticulously drawn graffiti to be seen in Newhaven. Latin phrases have appeared on walls in the town. For example Non Timere Beneficii. Either the Romans are in our midst or we have a very erudite graffiti artist. Who?

FILM NIGHT: Film night in the village hall continues to be popular. Friday’s showing was Brooklyn. Films ancient and modern are shown during the winter months and are greatly appreciated by villagers and others from further afield. Thanks Bill.

SMILE FOR THE DAY: Last week, smothered in paperwork, Smile for the Day was omitted, so this week, to make up for it, there are two. Number one: Jack: Two days ago, I fell down a deep hole, full of water and I nearly drowned. Bill: That’s terrible, how did you manage to do that? Jack: I couldn’t see that well.

Number two: What name would you give to a man wearing a car number plate on his head? Reg, of course.
