TYEFEST 2016: If you are interested in having a stall at Tyefest 2016 you can download a booking form from our website under the heading of Telscombe Tye. It is being held on Saturday September 3. We are also looking for volunteers for setting up on the Friday, marshalling on the Saturday and clearing up on the Sunday morning. TYE SIGN REJUVENATED: Thanks go to Cllr Brian Page for painstakingly restoring the sign for Telscombe Tye on the western side which had fallen into disrepair. Thanks also to our out of hours caretaker and handyman, Mick Evans, who replaced rotten posts and put the sign back in place.

TELSCOMBE TYE USERS: Telscombe Town Council endeavour to ensure that Telscombe Tye continues to be a safe and relaxing environment for its residents and visitors to enjoy. To these ends the activities listed below are being discouraged and where offences are disclosed, prosecuted. Dog walkers are reminded that they are responsible for removing any dog waste when they leave the Tye and placing this in the bins provided. The Tye is grass Downland and there is a common law right for the sheep and lambs to be on this land. Whilst they are present dog walkers must keep dogs on a lead. Incidents of worrying, resulting in injury and death of the sheep and lambs will be reported to Sussex Police. Dog owners are reminded that they are liable to be prosecuted for this criminal offence. In addition, any dog(s) found worrying the livestock can be destroyed judicially following a successful prosecution. In all cases dog owners will face a compensation claim for damages from the Farmer which can run into thousands of pounds. Whilst kite flying will always be encouraged, hang gliders, powered hang gliders and kite boarding poses an unacceptable risk to public safety and will be discouraged on the Tye. No shooting is allowed on the Tye without the written authority of Telscombe Town Council. Anyone found to be on this land with a loaded Shotgun, Section 1 Firearm, or Air Weapon (whether loaded or not) without this written permission will be reported to Sussex Police for the offence outlined in Section 19 or 20(2) Firearms Act 1968. Anyone witnessing this can make an immediate report to the Police Contact Centre on 0845 60 70 999. Anyone found to be driving a motor vehicle on the Tye contravenes Section 34 Road Traffic Act 1988 and the matter will be reported to Sussex Police for investigation. Metal detecting and digging of holes is prohibited on Telscombe Tye. If you see any of these activities going on and wish to report it, please contact the Town Council on 01273 589777. FOOTNOTES: Now I rarely moan about roads or traffic, knowing what a privilege it is to drive a car these days. I can remember when I lived in a quite long road in South London in the fifties, and there were only two cars in the road. One was owned by our landlord, who lived above us and the other by a police officer who lived opposite. The reason being that very few people in that area at the time could afford to buy or run a vehicle. So consequently I was always grateful that my profession enabled me to get a licence early in life and enable me to afford a car. I was thinking of this as I fought my way through heavy traffic on the A259 in the middle of the day. A time when it used to be virtually empty. Now I know that there has been an enormous increase in house building in the area, and I am the first to concede that people must have a roof over their heads. But the powers-that-be should also make sure that the supportive network of new roads and alternate routes are also put in place. Ah well, it will all change come the revolution, as my grandfather used to say, (he was a die hard Socialist, who really believed it and went to Spain to fight against Franco’s fascists to prove it).
