CARNIVAL SOCIETY: This spectacular bonfire event, which takes place every year on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, is in honour of all that have fallen in defence of their country since 1914, and is very special to the parish. This is a tradition of which the people of the parish of East Hoathly with Halland can be justly proud. The memorable event has become a very popular part of the Sussex bonfire calendar, attended by many other Sussex bonfire societies, however it has now a victim of its own success. As more and more people are attracted to the event, the financial strain in terms of policing and health and safety have become a considerable burden on already limited funds. This year, ever more stringent and demanding regulations have been imposed upon us by the authorities which potentially threaten the viability of the event. In order to continue this village tradition the Carnival Society is making a heartfelt request for help in any way that you can, by either making a small financial contribution to their funds, or by offering your talents or skills in any way that you that you think may be useful. If you feel that you could make a contribution in any way that you can, please contact Chris Reene at chris.reene@virgin.net, or on 07960 882173, or Julia Deene at jaydenconsultants.t21@btinternet.com, Tel 01825 840384.

KING’S HEAD CANTER: On Bank Holiday, August 31, the 18th King’s Head Canter will take place in aid of the Carnival Society. Teams and individuals are invited to enter the race which will start at 11am from The Six Bells in Chiddingly, finishing at the King’s Head. Teams should include three people who live, work or play in the village.
