KING’S HEAD CANTER: This is the last call for teams to enter The King’s Head Canter which will take place on Monday. This year the 18th Canter will take place in aid of the Carnival Society. Teams and individuals are invited to enter the race which will start at 11am from The Six Bells in Chiddingly, finishing at the King’s Head. Teams should include three people who live, work or play in the village. POLITICS IN THE PUB: The next debate will be on the subject of (Why) Do We To Need Belong To The EU and will take place at the King’s Head on Wednesday at 7.45pm. Buy yourself a drink and make your way to the Club Room to discuss this topical subject with other local people with an interest in progressive politics. By popular demand guest contributor Lloyd Russell-Moyle will be making a return visit. Entry is free but a donation of £1 will be accepted to defray costs. PRESERVATION SOCIETY: For the next event, the East Hoathly and District Preservation Society present, Behind the Scenes at the National Gallery by Sarah Berry. Sarah has worked at the National Gallery, in Trafalgar Square, for a number of years and was head of the photographic department. The talk covers the history of the gallery, including WWII and also the departments vital to its running and the care of the paintings. In particular, she talks about the photography done prior to and during the conservation of paintings e.g. the use of X-ray analysis. The talk concludes with the gallery today; the current and forthcoming exhibitions, how people can access the gallery through the internet or maybe organise a group visit. This event will take place at the East Hoathly Village Hall on Friday September 11 at 7.30pm. Admission is free to members and guests are welcome at £3 per person. VILLAGE SHOW: This year’s autumn show will be held on Sunday, September 6, at East Hoathly Village Hall. Please note the change of date for this year. The Village Show Society encourages everyone in the parish to enter their autumn flowers, vegetables, flower arrangements, cookery, handicrafts and photographs at this friendly community gathering. Annual membership subscription is £2 and there are plenty of classes to enter for amateur gardeners, home cooks, photographers and crafts people, as well as there being lots of children’s classes. The village hall will open for exhibitors at 8.30am and will close for judging at 10.30am. The hall will re-open at 1.30pm for public viewing of the exhibits and the results, for an admission price of 50p per person. At approximately 3.30pm the prizes will be awarded to the successful exhibitors, followed by a raffle. An auction of produce will end the afternoon.
