THE WEATHER: Another week, another weather pattern, after the last few weeks’ sunshine, we gardeners welcome the rain, it will save watering those squash and courgette plants, they love the warmth but they also like the rain.
QUIET TIME: Falmer seems quiet this week, so I took myself off for a walk around the south of Falmer, amazed at the number of geese on the pond, they look so peaceful and graceful. I visited the new auction house Falmer Auctions at Court Farm. Out of two large barns, Keith Miles, the owner of the auction house, has made a really welcoming and modern hall. I was invited into the building and shown around by Jean, Keith’s assistant. I could see the auctioneer’s podium, the comfortable seating for the customers, it looks to be an interesting venue. They are hoping to be up and running by the end of this month, July and we look forward to visiting at this time. There is also a café for the comfort of the auction customers, which will be open six days a week, and this will also be open to the wider public and visitors to Falmer pond. We will report further when we have a date.
BREAK-IN: It has just come to me that over a week ago there was a break-in to an out building on the south side of the village and tools were stolen, the police are of course looking into this. This is typical of a similar number of thefts in the area in recent times, and we must all be aware of suspicious persons and activities and report them to the police.
