Falmer

CHRISTMAS FAIR: Tomorrow, Saturday, the Singing Tree Kindergarten have their Christmas Fair in the village hall from 11am to 3pm. If past fairs are anything to go by there will be some lovely stalls selling interesting things, delicious lunches and plenty to do for the little ones.

SHEPHERDS ARISE!: We have some wonderful entertainment coming up next weekend on Sunday 20 at 2pm. Shepherds Arise will feature Sussex Folk Carols from old Sussex Church manuscripts accompanied by flute, fiddle, serpent, bassoon, recorder, clarinet and concertinas. The musicians and singers are from the Lewes Folk Club. There will also be dance tunes from Sussex Mss sources and a Sussex Mummers play. With all that going on the concert will be a bit longer than our usual 45 minutes.

CHRISTINGLE: If you have youngsters, we will be having our usual Christingle service on Christmas Eve at 3pm, a blessed island of peace at a time when things can get a little stressed. More details next week.

WILDLIFE: Rosemarie mentioned her robber magpie last week, the thieves in our garden are the hordes of squirrels that feast on our holly berries and all the bird food that we put out. I went out yesterday to find one calmly chomping away at the peanuts from inside the squirrel proof cage. I have cut some holly to save for Christmas and put it in my shed. I am hoping my foresight will not end the way it did last time I did this. On that occasion, when I went to fetch the holly from the garage, I discovered that a mouse had got in and eaten the whole lot.
