MUSIC IN FALMER: The programme for concerts in St Laurence Church is published and it looks as good as ever: January 30, King Henry’s Consort; February 20, Yvonne Patrick Soprano and Robert Chavner Counter Tenor; Marcy 19, University of Brighton Community Choir; April 19, Soloists of East Sussex Academy of Music; April 23, The music Scholars of Roedean School; May 14, Beauty of Baroque; May 28, Sophie Kay, piano; June 11, The Pastores Ensemble; June 18, Gabrielle Stephens, Classical Guitar. We look forward to these events. We also look forward to the work being carried out in the sanctuary of St Laurence church, which begins this week.
FOOTBRIDGE: Not looking forward to the work to be carried out on the footbridge of Falmer, there are many questions to be answered, such as where can people travelling by bus from Lewes readily access the village, probably the next stop at Falmer Station, then crossing the road and up the slip road by foot or by bus? We shall see if there are any magic answers, especially as the work is likely to take up to three months.
THE WEATHER: Hopefully soon this dire weather will end and we can look forward to some dry weather. I have just received an email from a friend in Australia who is starting a new garden and has bought so many wonderful plants, all without the aid of a greenhouse, such as avocado, mango, lemon, cherry, papaya, pomegranate, all from seed and growing well, cuttings from figs, mulberry and lots of herbs. It will be interesting to hear how they will all grow.
