TALK: Tomorrow, Saturday, at The Space, Old Heathfield, from 2pm to 4pm Dr Bill Frankland MBE, who is 104 years of age, will be talking about his life story. In 2015 he appeared in an episode of the BBC2 TV series Britain’s Greatest Generation and then as a guest on the BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. In June 2015 he was awarded an MBE for services to allergy research. Dr Bill spent the war years in the Royal Army Medical Corps of which three and a half years were spent as a prisoner of war in Singapore. Dr Bill served as registrar to Alexander Fleming in the development of penicillin. The two had daily meetings, but due to Flemings lack of interest in clinical medicine, Dr Bill cannot recall a patient ever being discussed. Tea, coffee and cake will be available following Dr Bills talk. Please book tickets in advance which are available at £5 each from Jean Barnes, tel: 01435 863784 or email jean@barnesconsultants.com.
