VOTE LEAVE GROUP: The Heathfield and area Vote Leave group have organised a public meeting at Mayfield Memorial Hall, Court Meadow on May 13 at 7pm to discuss the EU Referendum. Although there will be speakers giving the arguments for leaving there will also be the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions and give their views on either of the two options. HEATHFIELD CHAPEL: A warm welcome to our services at Heathfield Chapel, Punnetts Town when our speaker on May 8, at 11am and 6.30pm, will be Robin Jones from Horam. Rev Robert Scott from Eastbourne is the expected speaker at 11am on May 15 and Ken Davies from Tunbridge Wells to take the evening service at 6.30pm (with communion).

HEATHFIELD WI: A very special meeting was held on April 27 when members celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday by dressing up in a red, white and blue theme, singing the National Anthem and enjoying afternoon tea with a fabulous celebration cake, designed to look like one of Her Majesty’s hats. Marion Pearson won the best dressed competition with her Union Jack themed outfit.

Our speaker was David Goldsmith who talked to us about Eye Care Services in the Amazon. This truly inspirational talk gave us all an insight into the difficulties faced by the people living in such remote villages in the Amazon and how, in many cases, blindness could be avoided with simple ophthalmic procedures if only they were more readily available. David and his team of volunteers have helped to save or improve the sight of many people and he retold heart-warming stories of how people’s lives had been transformed by this miracle of modern science.

Two of our members celebrated birthdays this month, Gill Poulton and Pamela Rehal. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday May 25 where members will enjoy a ploughman’s lunch before discussing this year’s WI Resolutions. For further information or membership enquiries please telephone: Anita: 01435 863479 or Margaret: 01435 867076.
