HERSTMONCEUX SCOUTS: The Scouts are looking forward to being able to eventually take up residence in new permanent headquarters in the village of Herstmonceux. In the meantime they are in negotiation with the meteorological office at Lime Cross who have very kindly offered them a temporary home until their new accommodation is built and ready. The group used to meet there 100 years ago and so, for the time being, will be going back to their roots. If you would like up-to-date details of how the project for the new Scout Hut in Herstmonceux village is progressing then contact Tabitha on 07887 420751.

WELLBEING WEEKEND: There is a Wellbeing in the Wild weekend at Lime Cross Nursery planned for Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23. This will be a two day non-residential weekend with a focus on yoga and relaxation to improve your well-being. If you would like to full details and the provisional programme, or have any questions, please contact Helen Tate at helen.tate@limecross.co.uk. If you are interested and can save the date, please let Helen know. We need 12 people to run the weekend. At this stage we are gathering expressions of interest

PCSO SURGERY: This is on Thursday at the Village Information Centre between 10.30 and 11am. Come and meet your local Police Community Support Officer Geraldine Hodgens. It is your opportunity to have your say and discuss any problems you may have. If you don’t have any, just come along for a chat.

FAMILY FISHING WEEK: From August 17 to 23 take a day with the family to explore the world of fishing at Furnace Brook Fishery and develop the senses to understand the links between the aquatic world and lakeside flora and fauna. Experienced fishermen and naturalists providing daily sessions on fishing techniques and tackle, nature awareness, environmental arts and crafts and shelter-building. Refreshments available in newly refurbished lakeside lodge. Special Rates for the week: 12 to 16 year olds only £1, U12’s free, Adults (non-fishing): £5. This facility has a main river fed lake of 5.5 acres and is open all year 7am till dusk. Specimen fish include bream, tench, roach crucian carp, Carp up to 20lbs and a few surprises.

CUCKMERE BUS ROUTE: Cuckmere Buses (CCB) is working with the Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux by providing a return bus service directly from Eastbourne to The Centre every Wednesday until October 21. Service 49 will leave Terminus Road (stop A) at 11am and noon. The 36 minute journey travels via Devonshire Place, along the seafront to the Sovereign Centre, then to Langney Shops, Westham, Pevensey Castle, Wartling and the Science Centre. The return journey leaves the Observatory at 11.45am, 12.45pm and 2.45pm. English concessionary bus passes are accepted on this service and the bus will stop on route wherever it is safe to do so. And as a little extra, visitors get a discounted entry to The Centre by showing their same day bus ticket. The world famous observatory provides hands-on science and discovery for all ages.

ALL SAINTS: There is an 8am Holy Communion (BCP) and 6pm Evensong service this Sunday.

WARTLING: St Mary Magdalene has a service 9.45am Holy Communion (CW) service on Sunday.

BOWLS: The bowling club had two friendly games last week against East Dean and Friston winning 62 to 45 shots and Herstmonceux Gents shot 67 to Hailsham Gents’ 58.

OPEN GARDEN: Tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday Butlers Farmhouse, Butlers Lane, Herstmonceux BN27 1QH will be open from 2 to 5pm in aid of the National Gardens Open for Charity scheme. Live jazz in the garden, plants for sale and refreshments. Disabled access. Admission is £5. Children free.

SUMMER FAIR: At Wartling church tomorrow, Saturday, from 2pm to 4.30pm. Cakes, books, bric-a-brac, refreshments, treasure hunt and other children’s activities and much more.

WALKS: On Tuesday the walking group will be meeting at 6.30pm at Herstmonceux Woolpack for a walk around the Wartling and Horse Eye area. With Andy 07740162367 and Karen. Contact the walk leader if you would like to go along. New members and well behaved dogs are welcome.

POP-UP FEASTS: This evening Chef Valentina Harris will be at Lime Cross Nursery, Herstmonceux from 7pm cooking up a Sicilian Feast of specialities from one of Valentina’s favourite regions followed tomorrow, Saturday, by an evening with a Tuscan flavour from her home in Tuscany. One of a series of delicious pop up dinners cooked for you using the very best of local Sussex produce and the freshest of authentic Italian ingredients. Next Friday, August 14, there is a Summer Bistro with Sue from 7pm to 9pm. Call 01323 833229 to book.
