FOOTPATHS GROUP: Bank Holiday Monday Walk. Meet at top North Street car park for a 9.30am start. This walk will start from Cuckmere and then walk over the cliffs to Crowlink and then through Friston Forest and back to Cuckmere. A bracing six and a half mile walk. New walkers are welcome to join us.

GARDEN SOCIETY: Lewes and District Garden Society. Willie Edmonds, well-know local author, will be following the theme of Robert Louis Stevenson’s quote: ‘Nothing is so interesting as weeding’. He will also be bringing a tray of seasonal Lewes weeds to illustrate his talk. The talk takes place on Wednesday, 7.30pm for 7.45pm at Cliffe Church Hall, Cliffe High Street. All welcome. £3 for non-members.

SOUTHOVER CHURCH: (One of the Trinity churches): On September 5 and 6 our chapter house art group will be holding an exhibition from 11am to 5pm at Castle Lodge House, Castle Banks, with tea and cake served by Lewes Neville WI. Do please visit the exhibition and support the group’s charities Shelter and Southover Community Care (Trinity’s own care agency). Our next Alpha course starts on Thursday September 10: a great opportunity to explore the basics of Christianity. Please contact our rector, Steve Daughtery, on 01273 472018 for more information. On Saturday September 12 the Sussex Historic Churches’ Trust will hold its annual Ride and Stride between churches, including Southover. Volunteers take part to raise money for the Trust. That day the Gundrada Chapel will be open from 2pm to 6pm under the national Heritage Open Days scheme. Niches in the chapel contain the lead burial caskets of William de Warenne and his wife Gundrada, founders of St Pancras Priory. Their remains are interred in the chapel under Gundrada’s original carved grave slab. On September 20 all the congregations from Southover and South Malling will join the congregation of St John sub Castro at 10.30am to celebrate the transfer there of our congregation which presently meets in Southover church hall. The service will be followed by a bring your own picnic and we hope the new café will be in operation too. All other services in our three churches that day are cancelled. Services this Sunday: 8am communion (prayer book); 10am morning service, a blend of traditional and contemporary, with choir, organ and band; 11.15am informal service in the church hall; 6.30pm informal service with singers and band. Do please join us.
