FOOTPATHS GROUP: On our last Sunday walk we started from Bo-Peep car park right at the top of the South Downs above Alciston and Selmeston. We had hoped to enjoy the wonderful views all around but this was not to be as we found ourselves in damp low clouds. We took a well worn path southwards and as we descended a little we were able to see the breakwater at Newhaven and the cliffs at Cuckmere. This path would have continued into Seaford but after a coffee stop at the junction of four paths we took a beautiful quiet path which took us into Blackstone bottom before taking the Greenway track which climbed steadily back up to the top of the downs and the South Downs Way and back into the clouds. We were soon back at the car park and most of us then enjoyed a really good lunch at the Trevor Arms in Glynde who made us so welcome.
The next walk is on Sunday, Plumpton. This will be a flat 6 mile walk. Meet at top North Street car park for a prompt 9.30am start. Programmes are available from the Tourist Information shop or from the Outdoor Shop in the Cliffe.
TRINITY AT SOUTHOVER: And St John sub Castro. Tomorrow, Saturday, the Trinity fair trade Christmas Fayre takes place from Noon to 3.30pm in Southover church, with good food, fair trade gifts and children’s activities. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our mountain of shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts for children in Romania. We are once again supporting Angel tree, the charity which helps the children of men in Lewes prison have a special present from their dad at Christmas. Angel tree buys and wraps presents worth £10 each and the dads put in a personal message to their child. It helps families stay in touch, which is so vital to families split up in that way. If you would like to contribute to a gift for a child, please call or email the church office on 01273 470616 or firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are in Waitrose please consider supporting the CTLA Christmas lunch with your green token, as it is one of this month’s charities being supported by them. Services this Sunday at St John sub Castro: 11.15am informal communion service. Services this Sunday at Southover: 8am communion (prayer book); 10am morning service with communion, with choir, organ and band; 6.30pm informal service with singers and band. Please join us.
