SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Headteacher, Mrs Jo O’Donoghue says, ‘It was great to welcome so many prospective parents to our open days this week and show them around the school.’ After a presentation from the Headteacher and Reception teacher, the parents were shown around the school by the Year 6 ambassadors and given a child’s perspective on life at South Malling. Friday December 4 is their wonderful Christmas Fair. Doors open at 3.15pm; there will exciting stalls, mulled wine and refreshments and, of course, the show stealer, Father Christmas in his grotto. This week the children have been asked to bring in donations for the auction of class hampers. The hampers are always full of festive goodies to be enjoyed by everyone. Look out for the South Malling Choir in December. Their fame is spreading and they now have several bookings for Christmas Carol singing in the area, including at Tesco’s at 2.15pm on Tuesday December 15. The school said a huge well done to their football teams last Wednesday. They should be celebrated for playing on, during a most amazing downpour in which everyone got completely soaked. Thanks also to the soggy parents and staff who kept cheering them on.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: Welcomed the Brown Family and friends last Sunday to the Breakfast Service. After breakfast, other friends and members of the congregation joined the service which was both a Thanksgiving and Naming Ceremony for little Mila Victoria Lewinna Brown, who smiled cheerfully throughout the service and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. This Sunday is Advent Sunday, where the whistle is blown to begin the run up to Christmas by the lighting of the first Advent Candle. This Sunday, the service will be cafe style, informal and fairly short and it will be followed, after a brief pause, for those who wish to stay and take part, by discussion of a proposed new monthly pattern of services to meet the needs of a growing congregation. All are welcome and you don’t have to stay for the discussion. The service begins at 9.30am.
