Malling

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: The church enjoyed an exploration of Holy Communion last week, with a detailed exposition by the Associate Vicar, Revd Jeremy Bamber. It was quite a moving experience, not only to hear about the special meaning of the service, but also, to then take communion and experience its special blessing in the context of the learning. This week there will be a Service of Morning Praise with Children’s activities. Children will look round the churchyard for wildlife, with a member of Southover church, and will then come into church to tell the adult congregation about what they have seen. South Malling Churchyard is carefully managed as a site of special interest by South Malling Volunteers. The week after this one, Revd Steve Daughtery will be preaching on issues related to ecology. All are welcome to the Morning service, which begins at 9.30am, this coming Sunday.

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: The association met with local Councillor, Daisy Cooper and James Newmarch from ESCC, on April 6 to talk about the planned work with the lime trees along Blake’s Walk. The intention is to remove some trees, whose neglect has led to fears that the whole avenue might be poor quality and replace them with good quality trees, including Hornbeams, working together with the local arboricultural contractor and ESCC. The new trees will be Heavy Standards. As they grow, in many cases they will be taller and stronger than current trees which will have to be removed because of their poor quality.

SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Returns to work on Monday. The school hopes they have had a well-deserved holiday.
