SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Had a one day Ofsted inspection last week, after the usual half day warning. The school took it in their stride. Much has been done following the last inspection (in which they were judged to be Good), just before Christmas in 2011, and the school has a clear idea about what they do well and what more needs to be done. They will hear the inspector’s judgement in the next few weeks. When the report is written, before publication, it is reviewed by the inspecting body to ensure that what is said is in line with the grade that is given, and matches similar grading for other schools recently inspected so Ofsted don’t give or confirm a grade until their own report is actually published. We are proud of our school and wish it well.

SCHOOL FETE: The School Fete takes place tomorrow, Saturday, from 11am to 2pm on the school field. It is always a happy and enjoyable occasion, with much to eat and drink, plenty to buy, and opportunities to win worthwhile gifts, in a range of competitions and games. Please come along and support the school especially since, like all our schools in Lewes, it ploughs its earnings back into supporting our children with up to date equipment, building improvements and ensuring that all children can benefit from the wide range of off-site activities which take place every year.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: The service this Sunday is Holy Communion. It will be led by Revd Dick Field. Ian Graham will be speaking about Jesus’ promise during the time after the resurrection and before he ascended into heaven. He told his disciples that a comforter, the Holy Spirit, would be sent to strengthen and reassure them as they live through what are called, the last days. God is still present to the human family, but no longer in the flesh. The service has been designed to welcome all comers, not just baptised and committed Christians but all who feel the need for divine support and love especially in our turbulent times and will end with a blessing. All are welcome. The service begins at 9.30am.
