COUNTRY MARKET: Newick Country Market will be open today, Friday, from 10am to 11am in the village hall. There are some lovely homemade cakes, pies, locally grown vegetables and fresh flowers available, plus many other interesting items. Why not pop along and enjoy a cuppa and see what’s on sale?

OPEN GARDEN: Tomorrow, Saturday, from 2pm to 5pm the garden at Sparrow Hatch, Tilehouse Lane, Newick will be open to raise funds for St Mary’s Church. The garden is under an acre but divided into areas with plenty of planting interest and colour (see the entry in NGS yellow book). There are many different seats and benches on which to sit and gaze plus you can also enjoy a cup of tea and cake. There will also be some plants for sale. Entry fee is £5 for include refreshments, children entry is free but will be pay £1 extra slice of cake. This garden is really beautiful so make sure you go along and enjoy the plants and flowers in a very quiet area and help raise some funds for the church.

BOWLS: Newick Bowls Club fixture tomorrow, Saturday, Barcombe Barwick Cup. This is both a home and away fixture. On Sunday they play Mackie at home. Both of these games will commence at 2.30pm. On Tuesday evening there are two games Mid-Sussex v Henfield at home and John Spriggs v Burgess Hill, both at 6pm. On Wednesday they will play away at Deanland, 2.30pm start.

CRICKET: Newick Cricket Club are busy again this weekend the league matches are tomorrow, Saturday, the first XI are away to Heathfield Park, the second XI will be playing at home against Heathfield Park II, the third XI will be playing at the Temple Grove ground against Mayfield III, the fourth XI will be playing away at Pett. All the games will commence at 1.30pm. The Sunday friendly fixture will be against Barbados High Commission at 2pm.

CHURCH SERVICES: Services at St. Mary’s Church this weekend are 8am Holy Communion followed by Informal Morning Prayer. This Sunday is the Church’s Gift Day.

TENNIS: Newick Tennis Club are holding a free taster session at the Newick Lawn Tennis Club tomorrow, Saturday, from 2pm to 6pm. This is the LTA’S initiative The Great British Tennis Weekend. You will receive a warm welcome plus met the coaches and enjoy some tennis.

NEWICK CINEMA: The next film to be shown at the village hall is on Sunday, 7pm for 7.30pm. The film is Paddington (PG) starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Julie Walters. Tickets are £6 on the door, you can also do advance booking by emailing newickcinema@outlook.com

PARISH COUNCIL: Newick Parish Council will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday in the Sports Pavilion at 7.15pm. The public may ask question at the commencement of the meeting.
