Chris Smith (‘Not such a good deal for cyclists,’ February 8th) is correct when he says that the new Kingston to Lewes multi-user path ends at the entrance to the Stanley Turner Recreation Grounds. However the good news is that there is already a designated cycle route into Lewes via Cockshut Lane which begins just where the new path stops. This joined-up route will enable people to walk or cycle safely from Kingston into Lewes and on to the Ouse River, via Cockshut Road and Ham Lane.
We agree that more work is needed to make Lewes a cycle friendly town but this, like the Egrets Way project in the lower Ouse Valley, will have to be achieved in stages as opportunities arise.
