COUNCIL MEETING: There will be an Amenities and Civic Centre Committee meeting on Monday at the Civic Centre, 7.30pm.

FOOTNOTES: Whilst Jack and I have noticed the eruption next to the Texaco garage, I think we were both unprepared for the final result. Having seen a lot of discussion in the local papers, we stopped the other day to fully see for ourselves. I must admit that the size of the building is a bit of a shock. It tends to dwarf the bungalows around it, like a huge blue and white flower growing in the middle of a strawberry patch. I like buildings to impress me, but not yell at me. Why on earth is it painted in a garish blue, with of all things a white roof, under which the windows will overlook the gardens of the aforementioned bungalows. Why so high? And why not painted in something like rural green (a favourite of mine) that would help it to blend in with the Downland behind it. I know that provincial planning departments are not renowned for their sensitivity, but really chaps and chapesses, this is awful.

After shuddering at this, we sought to sooth our artistic feelings with a visit to Monks House in Rodmell, the last home of Virginia Woolf. Much better. Enjoy your weekend and week.
