BINGO EVENING: Bingo Evening today, Friday, 6.45pm for 7pm start at Telscombe Civic Centre. Eight games played for £4, plus an additional snowball and flyer game. Free refreshments at half-time break. Proceeds to Mayor of Telscombe’s charity fund.

FITNESS PILATES: Monday 9.30am to 10.30am, Thursday 7.30pm to 8.30pm in the Civic Centre. Get fit, tone up, prevent back pain, improve flexibility and posture. ZUMBA CLASS: Tuesday, 7pm to 8pm in the Civic Centre. This is an exhilarating, effective, easy to follow, Latin inspired, calorie burning dance fitness party. Just drop in and join the fun. £5 per class or five classes for £20. Contact Alex Murphy 07988 610269.

COUNCIL MEETINGS: The Amenities Committee meet on Monday at 7.30pm in the Civic Centre. Telscombe Village Club (sub-com) meet on Wednesday, 7.30pm venue for meeting to be confirmed. Please note, if there is insufficient business, meetings may be cancelled. Please therefore telephone the Civic Centre on 01273 589777 to ensure that the meeting is being held. Meetings are open to members of the public who are able to ask questions for a 15 minute period at the start of each meeting. Meetings are held in Telscombe Civic Centre unless otherwise stated. Telscombe Village Club sub-committee meetings are held in the Telscombe Village Club.

FOOTNOTES: A growing awareness that without a dog to walk on a regular basis, the ancient limbs are beginning to stiffen up. I have considered offering myself to the nearest rescue home as a volunteer walker, but it is a bit far for me to drive to every day. As ever, the internet held the answer and I am now the proud possessor of an exercise bike. I did toy with the idea of a normal cycle, but decided that now was not the time to reduce my survival chances. Indeed, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself in years past. I have also discovered that walking at a steady pace is a lot less exhausting then even a few minutes on an exercise bike. For the first week, I was only able to manage a few minutes a day, increasing by a minute each week. However, my sugar count is down, (I have diabetes), and my ankles and knees give the impression, at least, of being more supple. Each day there is now a blaze of yellow from the daffodils, cheering me up each time I walk in the garden, which coupled with the crocuses, tell me spring is finally here. What a wonderful season it is. The rebirth of nature each year, with its promise of summer days to come. Keats immortal verse comes to mind. ‘To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees, And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells, With a sweet kernel; to set budding more, And still more, later flowers for the bees, Until they think warm days will never cease, For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.’
