TIPS: I went to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. It was very memorable. All the participants stay in character all the time. Then I came back to St Pancras to find the whole rail system was shut for maintenance. I got home nearly an hour late and I had barely three hours sleep before I had to go to Heathrow to fly to Switzerland. Their transport system is perfect. I visited, amongst other places, the Reichenbach Falls where Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty fell, fighting for their lives. Then we went to Meirengen, to the Sherlock Holmes Museum. There’s a tall wooden statue paid for by the London Sherlock Holmes Society. But I believe the Japanese paid for the Crowborough statue, where Conan Doyle used to live. Tomorrow morning I’m off to Italy, and that’s it for a while. I need a rest.
