VISIT TO YPRES: Following on from the visit to the Somme last year to trace the memorials to our Waldron men who died in the Great War, we are making a second visit to the First World War battlefields this month, this time to Ypres in Belgium. We will be visiting several Military cemeteries and will lay crosses on the graves of more of our Waldron men as well as taking a wreath to lay at the Menin Gate while attending the evening ceremony there. We are trying to put together a full record with photographs of all the men whose names are on our War Memorial but are still missing pictures of several, if there are any families locally who know their ancestors fought in the War and are able to supply us with photos, please contact me direct on 01435 812036 or by e-mail at valerie.chidson@btopenworld.com I still have copies of the booklet Waldron and the Great War compiled last year as our contribution to the national commemoration of the start of WWI and if anyone would like a copy please contact the same number or e-mail address above.
