LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: Polegate and Willingdon Local History Society will be meeting from 7pm to 9pm today, Friday, at St John’s Church Hall Polegate. The talk is on magic and its history. Visitors are welcome. The fee is just £2.
HOT SOUP: The tea and homemade cakes provided at Jevington Church during the summer months for visitors and ramblers raised £1,200. Now that the weather is turning colder, it has been decided to offer hot soup, savouries and cake. The dates for your diary are from 11am to 3pm tomorrow, Saturday, and Saturday December 5. Refreshments are free but a donation towards the maintenance and renovation of this lovely ancient church in the heart of the Downs would be very much appreciated.
MAYOR’S CHARITY: Eastbourne Mayor Cllr Janet Coles’ two chosen charities for her year in office are RNLI and the JPK Sussex Project which aims to provide supported residential accommodation for people with a learning disability. The Society of Eastbourne Artists are having an art exhibition from 10am to 4pm tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday at Eastbourne Town Hall with a percentage of sales donated to the mayor’s charities. On the Sunday, JPK will be providing the refreshments and if anyone would like to help on the day or could provide some cakes, scones or sausage rolls, please contact Willingdon resident and JPK Project co-ordinator Jill Parker MBE on 01323 486179.
PUDDING NIGHT: John and Maureen Males are organising one of their ever popular pudding nights for 7pm on Saturday November 28 at the Cottage in Dittons Road, Polegate in aid of the JPK Sussex Project. CHRISTMAS FAIR: St Wilfrid’s Church in Broad Road Willingdon will be having their Christmas Fair from 12.30pm to 3.30pm tomorrow, Saturday. Attractions include Christmas gift stalls, cakes, raffle, and a tombola. Admission is free. Refreshments are served throughout the day and lunches are also available.
X’MAS FACTOR: Friends of Willingdon Community School present the X’mas Factor Craft and Christmas Fair from 10am to 1pm tomorrow, Saturday. Attractions include local craft stalls, student charity stalls, a Christmas visit from Santa, live music from Willingdon students and a raffle and refreshments. So do go along and see what the school in Broad Road has to offer.
CRYSTAL CLEAR: Will be entertaining customers at the British Queen from 8.30pm tomorrow, Saturday.
LONE STAR LINERS: Will be having a line dance social from 7.15pm to 10.30pm tomorrow, Saturday, at Willingdon Memorial Hall. The cost is £5 per person to include tea or coffee and biscuits. CHRISTMAS FAYRE: Chalk Farm LDC will be having their Christmas Fayre from 11am to 3pm on Sunday at Chalk Farm Hotel in Coopers Hill. Attractions include a variety of stalls including Christmas arts and crafts, greetings cards, and cakes. There will also be a raffle with some lovely prizes and a tombola. Games include ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ and name the teddy. Santa will be in his grotto with his elf helpers, and mulled wine will be available. Admission is 50p. Children go free. And don’t forget to visit the garden centre behind the hotel while you are there as there is a large variety of shrubs and plants.
A MUSIC RECITAL: Will be held at 7.30pm on Monday at St Mary’s Church. The recital, which is directed by Michael Stumbles, will feature the Recital Choir and guest singers and instrumentalists solos and ensembles with a range of musical styles. Admission is free. There will be a retiring collection supporting Children with Cancer.

TABLES AVAILABLE: Polegate Windmill will be having their Christmas Bazaar from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday November 28 at St John’s Church Hall in Polegate. There are still tables available for hire at £6 each for individuals and charity fund raisers to run their own stalls.
