VILLAGES and towns will be playing pass-the-parcel with a golden boot this year.
Displaying the boot shows a community has organised one of a series of walks aimed at exploring local countryside and places of interest.
The golden boot scheme has been put together by Wealden District Councill which is providing financial support. Also available will be banners, stickers, flyers and hi-viz tabards for walk leaders.
Community cabinet member Cllr Pam Doodes said: “We are encouraging groups in every Wealden parish to organise a regular community walk. They should be short and easy enough to appeal to young families, older people or those unable to walk too far.
“The aim is to discover the local area and promote the health benefits of walking, as well as providing the opportunity for local organisations to encourage more community involvement.”
So far more than 200 people from Uckfield, Crowborough, Frant, Buxted, Pevensey and Polegate have taken part and this year primary schools have also expressed an interest.
Last year’s walks focused on woodlands, local history and children’s activities.
