Peacehaven residents are being invited to dress up in their finery, dust off their dancing shoes and enjoy a cuppa at a vintage tea dance, hosted by The Co-operative’s Sussex Membership Committee next month.
On Wednesday September 11, an afternoon of dancing, high tea and live music will take place at Peacehaven Community Hall, from 3.30pm until 5.30pm, to celebrate 150 years of the Co-operative Wholesale Society (CWS).
Popular dance floor numbers, such as the Waltz, Foxtrot and Cha Cha Cha, will be led by the “Dance Mavericks” and entry to the event is just £1.
All proceeds raised will go towards supporting The Co-operative’s Charity of the Year, Carers Trust.
Guests will be able to reminisce about days gone by, as thanks to students from the MA Creative Media Course at Brighton University, the hall will be decorated with photographs documenting Peacehaven history.
The Co-operative’s Sussex Membership Committee is also encouraging people to bring any Co-operative memorabilia with them to share memories with friends and neighbours.
Emilie Fellingham, The Co-operative’s Membership Officer for Sussex, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this fun event and are looking forward to seeing some quickstepping feet in action.
“Everyone is invited to get dressed up and we’re sure there will be some glamorous couples taking a turn about the floor. Prizes will be given out to the best dressed on the day.
“The event will not only celebrate 150 years of the Co-operative Wholesale Society, from which The Co-operative that we know today was born, but will also raise vital funds for our Charity of the Year, Carers Trust. Our fundraising will make a real difference to young people in our communities who have practical and emotional responsibilities caring for a family member of friend who could not cope without their support.”
