Residents at a local care home will enjoy a variety of activities associated with the theme of The Arts to mark Care Home Open Day today (Friday June 19).
The event at Bethune Court, Boscobel Road, St Leonards on Sea, will have a variety of Indian themed events to fall in line with a virtual cruise that residents are currently travelling on; they are ‘sailing’ into Mumbai today.
Manager Vickie Willard said they are cruising to various destinations throughout the summer and ‘arriving’ in Mumbai will be a lot of fun.
“There will be an Indian meal, a Bollywood movie and entertainment from Music for Health, which will have an Indian theme,” she said.
The care home’s open day is also an opportunity for members of the local community who may be considering a career in the care sector to go along to a recruitment afternoon 2-5pm.
Vickie says there is a wide variety of jobs available, such as activity co-ordinators, catering staff, handymen and carers.
“This year’s Care Home Open Day (CHOD) will be a lot of fun for our residents and I hope that people will visit Bethune Court to see for themselves what a great place it is to live and work,” she said.
“Meaningful activities, such as those organised for CHOD, are a key part of residents’ day as it stimulates them both mentally and physically.
“But the day will also be a chance for visitors to find out more about working for Anchor, which runs Bethune Court. The care sector needs to attract a wider range of staff: young and old, and we need more men to consider care as a potential career – particularly as men are living longer. Our workforce should reflect the diversity of our residents.” www.anchor.org.uk
