BURWASH businesswoman Melanie Davies, of Highfields, has won South East Water’s monthly water butt competition. The win was well timed as her home is about to be put on a water meter.
South East Water encourages customers to stay waterwise after the lifting of the temporary use ban in July. The company depends on groundwater supplies which provide 75 per cent of its water. These were at a record low following two years of low rainfall but the summer deluge means aquifers are now beginning to recover. Spokeswoman Jane Gould said: “We were pleased our customers responded so well and it’s encouraging to see them continue these efforts now.”
Melanie said: “I am delighted I won the competition as not only will I be doing my bit to save water and keep my garden looking good but, as I’m about to have a water meter installed, I’ll be saving money too.”
