Wealden District Council’s Community Grants Scheme for local clubs and community organisations is now open for applications.
Grants are being offered through the Wealden Small Grant Scheme (grants of between £500 and £3,000) and the Capital Grants Scheme (grants between £1,000 and £10,000).
The closing date for applications is November 30 to enable awards to be made for the 2014 financial year.
Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet member for Public Health and Community Safety said: “Helping local groups to enrich their communities is an important part of the council’s role in supporting those who are carrying out excellent work at the grass roots.
“The financial support we give helps these organisations who are often the experts when it comes to knowing how best to meet local needs.
“We are looking forward to receiving applications from a wide range of community groups including those representing people with disabilities and young people, and those organisations which have not been funded by the council before.
“Grants for capital projects and smaller schemes have to be match funded, but this can be entirely ‘in kind’ through volunteer time.
“This will ensure that well supported groups of limited financial means can be helped.”
Applications will need to show that funds will be spent within the next financial year.
Grants awarded from the small grants scheme have supported weekly exercise sessions for the Hailsham & District Branch of Parkinsons UK, transport costs for Uckfield Housebound Club, and a contribution towards sports equipment for Jarvis Brook Juniors’ Football Club.
The Wealden Capital Grants Scheme has helped ensure that refurbishment work can take place at Polegate Community Centre, Wadhurst Village Hall and Picketts Wood girlguiding campsite.
To ensure all the eligible groups have the chance to benefit from Wealden’s Community Grants, a pre-application advice service has been launched.
