Crawley Irish Festival

For the best Irish entertainment, music, sport and dance visit Southgate playing fields this Sunday, August 30.

Tickets: 5 for adults and 2 for concessions. Accompanied children under 16 are 1.

The Apple Tree, Crawley – Viv Cooper benefit

The Rightous and the Wicked will be playing at the second benefit gig for local musician Vic Cooper who is currently ill from cancer.

Ratha Yatra Festival, Queens Square, Crawley

Queens Square in Crawley is set to rumble to the sounds of chariots once more with the return of the Ratha Yatra festival on Sunday August 30.

Haywards Heath

It's Magic presents Making Waves on Broadway, Haywards Heath

Making Waves on Broadway will include 14 performances on the Broadway ranging from rock to jazz.

Sense and Sensibility

A touring theatre company is staging Sense and Sensibility outdoors in the grounds of Michelham Priory on Bank Holiday Monday evening (August 31).

It starts at 6.30pm. Tickets cost 12 for adults and 8 for children and students. A family ticket is 35 with a 10 percent discount for groups of ten or more.


Craft market

A craft, gifts and local produce market takes place in Victory Hall, Balcombe on Saturday, August 29 from 10am until 2pm.


Car Boot Sale

Bonfire Society Annual Car Boot Sale is on the Green in Newick this Saturday (August 29), 8am until 1pm.

There will also be refreshments and cakes in the community centre, a barbecue, book, Plotters Trading Post, a couple of small children's fair rides.

Pitches: Cars cost 8 and vans are 10.


Beer Festival

A Bank Holiday Beer Festival takes place in Staplefield between Friday and Monday this weekend. There will be 15 cask beers and ciders with live music on each day.

Greek night

The Cock will be holding a Greek night on Saturday. The evening will start with Ouzo and olives before a great mezzo course, a Greek sweet and then coffee accompanied by Metaza.

East Dean and Friston Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Show takes place this Bank Holiday Monday (August 31).


Artwave 2009

A celebration of the artistic talents in Lewes and surrounding areas begins on Saturday, August 29 with Artwave 2009.

It kicks off this weekend giving art lovers the chance to visit open houses across the district.

The event, which is organised by Lewes District Council, runs from August 29 to September 13 and will showcases creative works by local artists in their homes and studios.

Artwave open houses are dotted all over district, including venues in Ditchling, Firle and Chailey, as well Seaford, Newhaven and Lewes.

Medieval festival

War cries will thunder across Herstmonceux Castle for its annual medieval festival this weekend.

Anglo-French market

Olives, jewellery, rustic bread, fresh local vegetables, Provencal tablecloths and lots more - they'll all be on sale from more than 100 stalls at Le Marche, Heathfield's giant Anglo-French market on Bank Holiday Monday.

Art Exhibition

The Artwave 2009 exhibition featuring painter Robin Holtrom at the Hop Gallery continues this weekend.

The gallery is Fisher Street opens Tuesday to Saturday between 10.30am and 5pm. It closes for lunch from 1.30pm to 2.15pm.

It opens on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. The gallery finishes on September 6.

Alfriston Festival

The Alfriston Festival continues on Saturday evening with a concert in St Andrew's Church in Polegate taking you on a musical journey from 17th century classical masters to the present day.



This Saturday the Jazzmen will be playing at the Carfax bandstand in Horsham between 11am and 1pm.

Car boot sale

Storrington Rotary Club is holding a car boot sale this Bank Holiday Monday at library car park from 8am.

Cars cost 7 while vans are 10 per space.
