The developer behind the Newhaven Eastside housing and supermarket plans has started work on the port access road.
It will serve a 190 home housing development, built by Barratt Homes, an Asda and office space, which have been granted planning permission and office space.
Developer Avalon has lodged a planning application for approval of reserved matters on the housing with Lewes District Council.
It includes artist’s impressions of the homes, which would be two, two and a half and three stories high.
A spokesperson for East Sussex County Council said: “There are two parts to the Newhaven Port access road.
“The first will serve a housing development due to be built on the East Side, and the developer has started preliminary work on this.
“The second section of the road, which will serve the outer harbour, is currently being designed by the county council, and we currently have funding allocated in our capital programme towards it.”
