There were smiles all round at a special evening for the winners of the 2013 Willingdon and Jevington in Bloom awards.
The event which took place at Trinity Church Hall was hosted by Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council Chairman John Pritchett and Cllr Christina Lynn Chair of the Events Committee.
A talk on how to encourage wildlife into your garden was given by Margaret Ambrose, followed by the presentation of trophies and certificates.
The winners were: Cottage Garden category, Richard Stapp; Formal Front Garden category, Mr and Mrs Bennett.
Unusual and Novelty category, joint first place went to Elizabeth Ganley and Sue Roche. and the Window Boxes and Hanging Baskets winner was Christina Harrison.
The winner of the school category went to Willingdon Primary School. Organisers said the standard achieved by Willingdon Pre-School under the guidance of Debbie Broady was excellent, however, this year the primary school led by Kim Attridge was outstanding.
A spokesman said: “The pre-school entry inspired by Elma the elephant was a rainbow of colours plus a delightful drunk scarecrow! The primary school however was the winner this year.
“Their raised vegetable beds well watered by willing volunteers held an abundance of edible crops and the sensory garden was looking the best.”
